ROAD BOARDS.
HEATHCOTE. This Board met on Thursday, December 17th, 1874. Present:—All the members. The clerk reported having received ordinary rates, £42 10s 9d; costs from R. M. Court, £2 12s ; balance of Government quarry grant, £ls 10s ; total, £6O 12s 9d. The foreman reported that Mr Money had not removed the obstruction off the road at the Sandhills, and that Mr M. Kearney was also an offender. The clerk was instructed to .further proceed in the matter. The foreman was instructed to get gravel from Mountford’s pit and renair Peiper’s road, and the clerk to advertise the closing of Wilson’s bridge for a week, commencing on Monday next, for repairs. Mr R. Martin waited on the Board, complaining of obstructions by Mr Robert Rainey, on the Heathcote River road. The clerk was directed to give Messrs R. Rainey, William Hawker, Henry Hawker, and Edward Garland notice to remove obstructions on roads. Letter from Government, with enclosures, re General Government grant of £2Ol, informing the Board the same would be paid to the Board’s credit. Letter from Mr J. Sandford, asking to be allowed to erect a foot bridge over the Heathcote, near his residence. Granted, subject to the usual conditions. Letter from Messrs Pepperell, with tender for forming road near New Brighton, at 130 s per chain. It was resolved to accept the same. From J. Rogers, complaining of water running through his section, asking the Board to find another outlet for same. The matter was deferred to next meeting. The clerk was directed to advertise the annual public meeting to take place on Wednesday, January 6th, for the purpose of electing three members in the place of the three retiring, viz : Messrs Dunlop, Ness, and Mardon ; and that a poll, if necessary, will be held the day after. Mr W. Ness informed his colleagues it was his intention not to stand for re-election. Accounts to the amount of £57 10s 7d were passed for payment, when the Board adjourned, RANGIORA AND MANDEYILLE. This Board met on Friday, at the usual hour. All the members were present, Mr Blackett occupying the chair. The surveyor’s report was considered, and in accordance therewith, it was resolved that £35 be voted towards the proposed work on the Boundary road ; also, that a ford be placed on the Oxford road, in lieu of the present culvert, near Fernsule. A tender for shingling the Drain road, was considered excessive. The surveyor was directed to invite fresh tenders, and for forming a portion of the two Chain road. Tenders were also opened for forming Church street, but being too high were rejected. It was resolved that the annual meeting of ratepayers be held on Monday, January sth, and the poll, if necessary, to take place on the day following, The Board then adjourned. SOUiH RAKAIA. This Board met on Thursday, 17th instant. Present —Messrs Wason (chairman), Holmes, Mackie, Coster, and Alington. The retirement of two members was decided by lot, the retiring members being Messrs Mackie and Alington. The annual meeting of ratepayers to elect two new members will be held on January 4th, 1875. It was resolved —“ That the road gang be broken up, and that the ganger only and three men be retained; that the immigrants’ cottages be painted, and that the clerk be instructed to treat for the putting up of partitions in those cottages, which are at present without them.” The Board stands adjourned to Monday, 4th January.
