CATHOLIC BOYS’ SCHOOL, CHRISTCHURCH.
The prizes for the ordinary annual examination were distributed to the successful competitors in the above school on December 18th. Rev F. Belliard'made the distribution. On his entering the school the pupils, to the number of about 130, sang the hymn “ Faith of our fathers ” very nicely, for which the Rev Father thanked them in the course of his remarks, Before distributing the prizes he reminded them that the good boys only were rewarded, so that the unsuccessful need not be very much disappointed—they must try and win the next time. The school at the present time had a good name, which he hoped it would always maintain—and that the Catholic boys especially would, during their holidays, endeavor to uphold, by keeping out of bad company, &c. The school would close that day for the Christmas holidays, and re-open on January 11th, He had received a very valuable prize a few hours ago, which he did not intend to give away just now. The donor was Mrs A. Courtney. She wished it to be given to the boy who made the greatest progress during the year ; and he intended it should be. Ho would, with Mr O’Connor, notice ocia'sioually the most industrious boy, and in the course of time let him have the prize, which is a very neat writing-desk. He then called out the successful boys, and presented them with their rewards, accompanied by a few kindly words. Subsequently he called for three cheers for the teacher—Mr O’Connor—which was given in ‘‘real good style,” after which three hearty cheers- for the Rev F.
