YOUNG AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND.

11 JEgles" in the Australasian writes as follows;—"Some of the young Australians practise securely enough upon the simplicity of their parents and guardians. In a case which lately came under my notice a struggling man with a limited income had a son in England studying medicine. The latter recently completed his studies, and during the summer of 1873 acted as assistant to a practitioner in England, with the ex pectation, as he wrote to his father, that the salary he was to receive would maintain him during the coming winter at college. To the father's dismay, however, the usual filial draft was presented for payment, with this wonderful explanation from the drawer. He had received his salary in gold, which he placed in the pocket of his vest. Immediately afterwards he was summoned to a midwifery case at a distance. He sprang on his horse, galloped to the scene of action, and when he arrived discovered that all the sovereigns had been jerked from his pocket! And his venerable parent tells the story with an evident credulity which it is almost cruel to disturb.
