CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, December 15. [Before G. L. Hellish, Esq, R.M.] DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Mary Edwards, for drunkenness, was fined 10s and cautioned, Michael Keevy, for being drunk and resisting the police, was fined 20s and cabhire. James Yeitch, arrested at Addington for being drunk and breaking two panes of glass at Mr Holloway’s house there, was fined 10s and 3s damage done, LYTTELTON. Monday, December 14. (Before W. Donald, Esq.. R.M.) ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES. Thomas Prebble and John Mcßwen, arrested by Sergeant-Major O’Grady, were charged with being illegally on the premises of Mr Jenkins, sleeping in his boat building shed. The Bench cautioned the prisoners, and dismissed them. DRUNKENNESS. Francis Plummer, arrested by Constable Emson, charged with the above offence, was dismissed with a caution. DESERTION AND LARCENY OF A BOAT. William Fall and John Maynard were brought up charged by Captain Roberts with deserting from the ship B. P. Bouverie. Mr Nalder appeared for the complainant, and the prisoners were sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for stealing the boat, and one month for desertion, and to forfeit all wages due up to time of desertion, KAIAPOI. Monday, December 14. (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M., J. Birch, and J. F. Fletcher, Esqs.’) CATTLE AT LARGE. H. Hinge, owner of fifteen head of cattle, found by mounted constable Beck wandering at large, was represented by Mr Lynskey. The Resident Magistrate said he should allow no one to appear in that court for a party interested unless a solicitor or agent appointed in writing. As this offence was admitted, the accused would be fined 5s and the costs of the court. H. Gibbs was charged with allowing one horse to wander at large. As accused did not appear, a fine of 10s and costs of the court was inflicted. BOROUGH BYE-LAWS. James Dawson was charged with neglecting to keep a chimney clean, as the same caught fire on the 9th instant. Admitted. I

Elizabeth Millwood applied for an order to protect her earnings, stating she had been brutally used by her husband, whs was sent to gaol for one month for assault, and had previously been in Aylesbury gaol seven days for a like offence. They had not been three months’ in the colony. She was keeping house for her brother in-law. Order granted protecting earnings for three months’, when it would be open for husband to appear and show cause if same should be set aside. CIVIL CASES. W. Smith v Thos. Foulkes ; adjourned on Dr Ovenden’s certificate that defendant could not attend. Birch and Co v Jas Blythe ; claim £22 3s 6d; judgment for plaintiffs’ for amount and costs of the Court,
