MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, December 7. [Before W. D. Carruthers, Esq., J.P.] DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Samuel Finlay, for being drunk and committing a nuisance, was fined 20s. Henry Allan, for drunkenness, was fined ss, and Wm Calder alias Thompson was fined 20s. ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES. James Hack and Jessie Andrews were charged with being found illegally on the premises of Mr Brinckmann, Peterboro’ street, on Saturday night last; the prisoners had been slightly under the influence of liquor at the time. Fined 20s each. Charles Evans was arrested at 3 o’clock on Sunday morning in Mr Wilson’s garden, opposite the Caversham Hotel. Evidence was given of the prisoner constantly hanging about the bars of public houses, and taking up drink when left down by others, and generally loading a vagrant life. Prisoner was sentenced to one week’s imprisonment. VAGRANCY. Alfred Saunders was charged with this offence. The prisoner had represented to a gentleman in the gardens the previous day that he was without food. He received 2s to obtain it, and was then seen to go into a publichouse to obtain drink. Sergeant Wilson gave evidence of the prisoner knocking about town in bars of public houses, and that he had been told that lie (prisoner) made a practice of begging. Remanded for turn days for further enquiries to be made. TRANSFER OF LICENSE. The transfer of the license of The Shades from Thomas By the to Joseph Hadfield was granted.
