The tii/ducij Mnruino Jlcrold of the 21st instant has the following important item on the subject of the temporary Pacific mail service:—lt is rumored in town that the Government has been negotiating with the I.S.N. Company for a continuation of the fomporam 'uiall service from and after Is’. •January nex', between :h‘;« nort and ssu Francisco, with, the steamers no v being employed to the end of December, viz, the Mhogregor, the Oyphrenes, and the Mikado ; but that the negotiations hare fallen through, and it is believed that the Government has made arrangements with a private firm in this city for carrying on the line for a further period of six months.
