The Customs duties collected at the port of Lyttelton during the month ol November amounted to £14,846 3s Bd, as follows;
Messrs R. Walton and Co disposed of the Horseshoe Lnke property yesterday, situated on the Brighton road, and consisting of about 311 acres of land, lor the sum of £3071. Mr Aikman held an auction sale of land at Middlcton's Hotel, Kaiapoi, on Monday, on account of Mr Win. Wilson, Mr B. Monk, and others. The deep water frontages realised good prices, as much as £SO being obtained for the sixteenth part of an acre, and other sections in proportion, showing that the demand for land in this borough is on the increase.
Melbourne.—The "Argus" of the 21st nlt feports:—ln the import markets a moderate business has been done, chiefly for the supply of trade wants, no specialties having come into notice. Breadstuff's are again particularly slow and no transactions worth recording have reached us. Parcels of flour are quoted at up to £l2 10s, without, however, leading to any sales. The demand for bakers* lots is also very quiet, but quotations of £l3, bags returned, remain unaltered. Wheat maintains a steady quotation of 5s 10d to 5s lid for prime, but there is so little offering outside the auction rooms that nothing has transpired in the way of sales. Oats have now not more than a nominal quotation of 5s 4d to 5s 6d for fe ding, Ihere is really so little to be met with in the market. Maize is firmer. Sales have been made at 5s 8d to 5s 9d, the latter price being generally asked, even for parcels. A good demand for reliuing sugars is mentioned. We learn that within the last two or three days the Victoria Sugar Company have disposed of privately, in parcels, 250 tons, at prices rising from 33s 6d to 36s 6d. Further sales of new 1874 Kent hops have been made at up to 3s. Figs are quoted at 9d to 9Jd, according to quantity, and we learn tliat an entire shipment has been taken up at the former figure. Castor-oil, on the spot, is very scarce indeed, and for immediate wants as much as 5s duty paid is wanted. To arrive, however, a much less figure would be accepted; we are informed of 2000 cases having changed hands afloat, on terms withheld. Teas are in request for trade purposes. A parcel of half-chests common congous has been quitted at Is Id. Quarters sardines are moving slowly at up to 58 9d. The offerings of timber embrace the cargo of the Martha Hideout, when 367,000 ft Oregon timber, 8 x 18, 8 x 16, 8 x 12, 6 x IS, 6 x 10, 6 x 12, 4 x 18, 1 x 16, 4 X 11, 4 X 9,3 X It, 3 x !), realised ss sd to 9s 10(1 per 1000 ft super; 13,000 4ft pickets brought £5 10s per 1000 ft; 17,000 4Jft pickets, £5 15s per 1000 ; 25,000 4ft laths sold at 22s 3d per 1000; 70,000 4 l .ft laths at :.'ss per 1000. The "Australasian" of the 21st ult reports:— The market for breadstuffs has exhibited no sign of improvement, values are. if anything, slightly lower. On Monday a parcel of 150 tons of flour was reported to have changed hands at about £l2 10s, at which figure also, a few moderate sales were made on Tuesday. To-day, at auction, 50 tons were disposed of at from £l2 5s to £l2 10s. For bakers' lots there is little inquiry at £l3, bags returned. Wheat has been firm at 5s lid to 6S; at the latter price a parcel of 250 bags prime Northern was placed on Saturday, and several small parcels on Monday. This forenoon a small lot of good milling was sold under the hammer at 5s lid. Oats are quiet; very few are offering, and little busiuess has to be reported. On .Monday small lots ot Tasmanian feeding were quitted at 5s 6d to 5s 7d; today small parcels of ordinary feeding were disposed of at from 5s Old to 5s s£d. There is no general inquiry for maize, the smaller buyers not yet being inclined to operate freely at our quotation of 5s 8d to 5s 9d. We learn, however, that the cargo of the Galatea, and about 1000 bags of the Spunkie, have changed hands on private terms, said to be about 5s Bd. Small sales of feeding barley have been made at 4s 9d. Bran is quoted at is 5d to Is sld ; pollard, Is 7d to is Bd. The first shipment of new hops, arrived per Northumberland, has been offered, and sales have been made of small lots at 3s.
