OXFOHD V RANGIORA. A match between the above cluba was played at the Moeraki Downs, on Saturday last, and resulted in a moat decisive victory for the Oxford team. The game was played on a paddock kindly lent by Mr Messent, but it was not in anything like cricketing order, the pitch being hard and lumpy, and the rest of the paddock too much covered with grass. The match was commenced by the Rangiora eleven going to the wicket, but the bowling of Johnson and Cooper soon disposed of the whole team with only 21 rnns to their credit. Good, Wheeler, and Wither, were the only ones to make any runs; the first making his six by a really capital hit to leg, and Wheeler by hits for 3,2, and 1. After having lunch at Messent’s Hotel, the Oxford team handled the willow, and succeeded in making 80 runs. Turner, G. Cooper, and Weld, being the highest scorers, with 13, 11, and 10 (not out) respectively. Turner’s score includes one 4, one 3, and one 2, and Cooper’s one 4 and two 2’s; Weld played very carefully for his 10, and carried out his bat. The score was considerably augumented by the large number of extras — 35—and it does not say much for the Ran-

sfiora long-stopping to see 27 byes on tbe scoring sheet. The Rangiora team had GO to get to catch their opponents, and winning the match was then considered quite out of the question ; hut still they went in with a determination to do their best. Hooper’s slow round-arm bowling however, soon decided the match, as he bowled three of the best bats out in one over. The only one to make any stand was Good, who, by careful play, succeeded in making top score of the day—l 9 ; but as none of the others seconded him, it was of no avail, and the last wicket fell for 44 —15 behind the Oxford team’s first innings.
