LINCOLN SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY TEA MEETING.
This annual meeting took place in the Presbyterian Church, Lincoln, on Thursday last, the 19th. The juvenile tea, provided by the ladies o£ Lincoln, took place at 4 p.m., after which an adult tea, at 6 p.m., was provided, the proceeds being devoted to the benefit of the Sunday school. Tables were provided by the following ladies—Mesdames T. A. Pannett, H. White, and D. Dunn, and the spread was an excellent one. After tea the tables were cleared away and forms placed in the church for the accommodation of those attending. The place wascrowded to excess. There must have been over 300 present. The Rev Charles Fraser presided. The Rev Mr Cree having offered prayer, the chairman, after addressing a few words to the children, called on Mr T. A. Pannett, superintendent of the Sabbath School, to read the annual report, which he d el as follows ;—“On the date of last anniversary tea meeting, October 30th, 1873, there was in the school 7 male and 4 female teachers, 30 male and 35 female children. Total, 11 teachers, and 65 children. Admitted during the year—2 female teachers. 11 male and 8 female children. Dismissed during the year—l male and 1 female teacher, 11 male and 12 female children. At preset tin the school—6 male and 5 female teachers, 30 male and 31 female children. Total, 11 teachers, and 61 children. Average attendance during the year—Teachers, 8 50-52 ; children, 37 22-52. Financial receipts—Balance in hand after last tea meeting, £5 3s 3d ; collected in school for Missionary ship, £1 16s 6d ; subscription, £5 13s ; proceeds of this tea meeting, £2 17s 6d ; total receipts, £ls 10s 3d. Disbursement, books. &c, for use in school, £3 13s lOd ; remitted for missionary ship, £1 16s 6d; renewed books for children, £6 15s ; total, £l2 5s 4d ; balance in hand. £3 4s lid.” He mentioned that the word dismissed in the report meant that the child or teachdr had either left the district or from some other cause stopped away, He only said this as last year, some people put a wrong meaning to the word. If they had been dismissed from any fault he would have used the word expelled. The meeting was then addressed by Professor Bickerton, Rev J. W. Cree, Mr Binstead, after which the prizes were di tributed by Mr Pannett, as follows ; Boys. John Taylor, W. Dunn, W. Taylor, J. Blair, G, Taylor, F. Simpson, G. Chapman, Alex. Wills, G. Pannett, W. Watson, W. Kimpton, F. Yaxley, G, Rennie, T. J. Broom, Arthur Kimpton. GIRLS. Anne Dunn, Ruth A. Pannett, J. A. Pannett, Jane Dunn, M. McPherson, G. Wills, C. Taylor, M. Gellatly, Elizabeth Gcllatly, E. Jackson, M, Kimpton, M. Taylor, E. Taylor, Jane Pannett, Mary Smith, Sarah Cairns, Julius Taylor, Emma Moffat, Elizabeth Moffat, Mary Blair, Sarah A. White Duringthe evening pieces were given by the choir, and recitations delivered by a number of the children, and the meeting terminated with votes of thanks to the ladies, the choir, and the superintendent of the school.
