ENGLAND V COLONIES. This mutch was continued on Saturday last. On the first afternoon's play each side played au innings, England scoring 08, to the Colonics' ;>7. Owing to the English mail closing early on Saturday, play did not commence until nearly three, o'clock, owing to several of the players being unable to be present before that time. England again went in, Sevens and Corfe being their first representatives, Moore and Fuller being the early bowlers for the Colonies. When the score reached 1(5, Corfe returned one to the bowler which was well taken. Wilson who came next was clean bowled by Fuller before he had time to score many runs; two for 20. Stevens was next to retire after making 16, bowled by a half volley on the leg stump Some of his hits were rather too high but fortunately just out of reach of the fieldsmen; two 3's and two 2's were his principal hits. Pouter joined H. \V. Moore, but obstructing the ball with his leg instead of his bat necessitated his retirement; four for 40. Monck
was out of form and hit all round, at a fair leugthed ball onthelegstumpwasbowled;five for 41. Sweet then came to Moore's assistance, but the latter's time had arrived, as in playing a ball from Fuller ha Rave a chance which was well taken by Oilivier; six for 58. Sweet shortly afterwards gave an easy chance to Chalmers at long off, but it was unaccountably missed, and after this he scored freely. 6logging the bowling, which was not of the best, about for 2's and 3's, until at last in trying a very short run had to retire. Turner carrying his bat for 2, the others not troubling the scorer much. It is worthy of remark that during the two innings of England there were only three extras, two leg-byes and one bye. The innings closed for 87. With 129 to get to win, the Colonies commenced their second innings with Wood and M'lntyre, the former was, however, very unfortunate, as, after playing a ball from Sweet, it just rolled into his wicket, and displaced the bail. Mclntyre was bowled in the next over by Moore, and 11. Cotterell was soon afterwards bowled by Swett; one and two for 4, three for 8. This looked very bad for the Colonies. • Oilivier and Beard, however, made a short stand, and looked like stopping, but Corfe, who had relieved H. W. Moore, took Beard's leg-stump; four for 27 Another stand was, however, made with J Fowler, and but for an unfortunate run out the game would have assumed a better aspect for the Colo.lies. Ollivier's 13 were made up of a 3, three 2's, aud singles. D'Emden took his place, and with Fowler played until time was called, the score standing at 58 for the loss of five wickets. J. Fowler made 15 by n4,a 3, two 2's, and singles. As it was not worth while wasting an afternoon playing out the remainder of the innings of the Colonies, it was decided to leuve the match a draw.
