LYTTELTON REGATTA.
A meeting of the committee was held in the Lyttelton Colonists' Hall, on Friday last. Mr H. P. Murray-Aynsley occupying the chair. There was a very large attendance. The chairman said that their business was to draw up a programme. He would read the list of last year's everts, but before doing so the vice-commodore (Mr Nalder) would perhaps give them an ascount of what funds they had in hand. Mr Nalder said that £226 and two cups was all, at present, at the disposal of the club, onfc of this they had already appropriated £145, so that there was a balance of £Bl available. Of course more money would be collected. The chairman then proceeded to read the list:—Four-oared Gig race, (struck out ) Four oared Whaleboat race, for youths' under eighteen. Mr Young moved, and it was carried—" That this be the first race on the programme." Scullers' race ; open to all ; (struck out). Ships' Boats' Sailing race ; for the boats of all ships in harbor ; carried. Scullers' race, in watermen's boats ; open to all comers ; carried. Gig race ; open to all ; (struck out). Sailing race, for vessels under 30 tons ; previously agreed to. Sailing race, in watermen's boats; carried. Pair-oared race, -in watermen's boats ; carried. Ships' Gig race ; carried. Champion Sailing race ; already agreed to. Four-oared Whaleboat race; open to all comers ; carried. Yacht race; carried. Sailing race, in whaleboats not over 26ft ; carried. Pair-oared Youths race (struck out). S tiling race ; open to all comers ; centre-boards up or down ; carried. Ballast Boat race, only for licensed boats ; carried. There was considerable discussion in reference to the race for bal'ast boats. Mr Hobbs stated there should be two races for them as they were of such different rigs, the one-misted might be separated from the two. Swimming match, carried. Tub race, carried. Duck hunt, carried. Greasy pole—On the motion of Mr Carder, a preasy bowsprit was substituted. The committee then proceeded to arrange prizes and entrance money. With reference to the yaaht race considerable discussion followed, and ultimately it was decided that the first prize should, be Mr Saunders' cup and £2O added, and £5 for second prize. Some didcussion also arose with refere ce'to some of the other prizes, but ultimately the programme was drawn out and agreed upon. The meeting then proceeded to elect a subcommittee, arid to arrange about the Ballast Boat Race and other necessary maiters ; and on the motion of Mr Carder the following gentlemen were elected:—Vice-Commodore, Messrs Webb, Hawkins, Burnip, Cameron, McClellan, Hobbs, Allwright, Agar, and the secretary. Mr Jacobson asked when the committee were supposed to hand in their subscription bookß l The Vice Commodore said it was customary to do so when the programme was arranged, but that in this case it would be better that they should bring them at an adjourned meeting, to be held that night week, in order that they might know what amount they had to workupon. He begged to move that a meeting be held on that night. This was seconded and carried. Mr Webb moved and Mr Cameron seconded " That the Superintendent be requested to be the patron of the Lyttelton Regatta for 1875." Carried. During the evening a letter was read from Mr J. E Hyde Harris, of Dunedin, asking for particulars regarding the regatta, and stating that if safficient inducement were offered there was a J probability of boats coming up for the yacht and open boat sailing race. The secretary stated that he had replied to this letter giving the necessary information. ■ , The vice-commodore said he had arranged that the Akaroa Regatta should not clash.
