ROAD BOARDS.
SOUTH MALVERN. The last meeting was held at Horne Bush. Present —Messrs McDrailh (chairman), Grindrod, Jebson, and Pole. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A tender for metalling the Auchenflower road for 2s 3d per yard, and putting in two culverts for £22, was accepted. The chairman was authorised to pay 25s to Mr Wright for carriage of timber by rail from Rolleston. A letter from Mr J. Y. Deans, sanctioning the diversion of Auchenflower road, was read. Mr Stevenson’s work was passed, payment to be made amounting to £ 19. £25 was pai l to Mr Manson, and 25s to Mr Revcly for work, done on the roads. The Board decided to write to the Government, pointing out the necessity of surveying the proposed road connecting Russell’s Flat and the coal road. It was decided to build a bridge over the Wai-a-niwa, designs to be laid on the table at next meeting. AKAROA AND WAINUI. A meeting of this Board was held at the Road Board Office, Akaroa, on Saturday, the 14th instant, the Chairman, Mr G. H. Saxton, and Messrs Duxbury and Meech being present. Letter was received from the Secretary for Public Works, enclosing copy of Mr Shadbolt’s offer for fencing Pawson’s Valley road, and stating that the Government will have the road diversion through Mr Shadbolt’s land fenced off at once in order that the construction of the road surface may be proceeded with. Letter was received from the Assistant Engineer, Mr Fenton, urging the immediate necessity for benching a portion of the Barry’s Pass Junction road, and suggesting that the Board use its influence to forward the completion of contract for works now in progress on the Pigeon Bay road. It was ordered that tenders be invited for benching portion of Barry’s Pass Junction
road and for felling and clearing the Summit road between O’Kains Bay road and the Le Bons Bay Saddle. The sum of £312 IBs (II was passed for payment on account of wages and con tract, and the meeting then adjourned.
