MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, November IS. (Before 0. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) VIOLENT ASSAULT. John McCrorey was charged on warrant with violently assaulting his wife Mary McCrorey. Dr Foster appeared for the prosecutrix. The accused had been before the Court on a previous occasion when a separation from his wife was agreed to by him. Since that time they had lived together again, and on the night of the 2nd November he illmsed her, and she was compelled to sleep behind a rock on the beach all night. He had also threatened what he would do to her, and thanked God that he was not bound over to keep the peace towards her. He was under the influence of drink at the time. Evidence of the ferry keeper at Sumner, and his wife, was given of the state of intoxication accused was in on that Sunday night, and his threatening language to his wife when he came to their house after her. The accused was bound over to keep the peace towards his wife and all Her Majesty's siibjects in two sureties of .£SO each, and in default to be imprisoned for thiee months. William Price, charged on warrant with assaulting his wife, Elizabeth Price, on the 17th November, was ordered to find two sureties of £SO each to keep the peace for twelve months, or in default three months imprisonment. TRANSFER OP LICENSE. An application for the transfer of the license of the Royal Hotel from Margaret Mackay to William Kirkwood was granted.
