EDUCATION.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sir, —Will you or any of your correspondents tell us new chums as to who are entitled to the credit of the present education system in Canterbury. My reason for asking is this, that a lot of us who have only been here a short time don’t know who to give credit for it; and as we hope to be able to register our votes next year, and this is a subject which has a great interest for us working men, we should naturally like to know who are the men who have shown such statesmanlike qualities as the devisors of this present ordinance. We hear all sorts of opinions. Some say the Superintendent is to lie credited with it, some Mr Tancred, others give Mr Montgomery and Mr Bowen, and I heard the other night a very strong argument and some comments not complimentary to two of these gentleman, and should therefore like to be put right. Yours, &c, NEW CHUM.
