Auckland, November 7. Mr G. M. O’Rorke has joined the Provincial Executive,' taking the office, vacant by the death of Mr Beveridge,, of Provincial Solicitor. Mr O’Rorke' does not take the title, but it is understood that Jio will do the solicitor’s work. The barque Speedwell arrived, via Kaipara, from Lyttelton ,aftcr a voyage of 42 days. Wellington, November 7. William Brown, late landlord of the Junction Hotel, Sandon, was arrested at Wairarapa last night, on a warrant, charging him with obtaining money under false pretences. He was well known in Christchurch under an alias, having deserted his wife there. Dunedin, November 7. Fears are entertained of the safety of the schooner Kail mini, which left Ha velock, limber laden, for Oarr.arn, on the 30lh September, and has not been heard of since. It is feared she may have foundered during the late gale. His Honor Judge Chapman delivered judgment in Dobson v Macandrew. which was for a rule nisi calling on Ihe Telegraph Commissioner to produce all telegrams. In the case of Macassey, calling upon Alaeassey to show cause why he should not be dealt with for contempt of Court, in commenting on a case while sub judicc . the rule was made absolute. Leave to appeal was given in both cases. Locke, a publican at Tiverton, in trying to stop a runaway horse, was kicked 1n the head. There is no chance of his recovery. A son of Mr Grant’s, at Waikivi, was found dead this morning under suspicious circumstances. Inquest to-morrow. A verdict of wilful murder has been returned against some persons unknown, in connection with the child’s body found hero on Monday.
