Small lines of wheat come straggling into the market and realise t is. Flour has an improving tendency, although no actual alteration in quotations is noticeable. Oats are retdliug at tis, as stocks appear quite exhausted, Butter is now offering more freely, to-day’s quotatio >» being »d, and at this price buyers do not cure to lay in stocks. Cheese is scarce, and only retail p navis are changing hands. No alteration is noticeable in hams and bacon. Melbourne. —The “Argus” of the 24th ult. reports;—ln the import xnaikets general business is exceedingly quiet, and were it not for the one or two specialities which occasionally come into more prominent notice, trade would almost appear to he at a standstill. In hreadstulfs, Hour presents a steadier aspect. Bakers lots are moving off at £li 7s 6d to £l3 10s, bags returned, and a very fair demand is experienced. Parcels are offering at £l3, and sales of good brands can he made at the price. Wheat is very Ihm at Gs Id to 6s‘2d, and mi lur’s parcels are moving otf n the rates named. Oats are lirm at late quotations of as ad to as 6d for good feeding, but supplies are so very insignificant, no sales are allowed to transpire. Maize is quiet. The trade having got their wants temporarily tilled up are not inclined to operate at present at the ad vance demanded.
