The Nelson Colonist gives the followin. tccnunt of a Masonic banquet, held in Nelson, m celebration of the formation of a lioya Arch Chapter in that i ity : On October 14th a banquet was given ir the Masonic Hall in celebration of the foimai ion in Nelson of a Hoyal Arch Chapter in Freemasonry, under the name of the Trafalgar Hoyal Arch Chapter of Nelson (S.C.), and in honor of the installing officers, M.E. ompauions P. W. Thiel, J. Booth, and A. A. Companions and brethren dined in reg-di ami the gallery of the hall was opened to ladies (heiiur members of the families of freemasons) np io about 10 o’clock. After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts, among which special notice was given to that of lf.lv 11. the Prince of Wales as the newly installed Grand Master of England, the following special toasts were given:— "The M.E. Provincial Grand Superintendent, C'i mp, (laidwell,” by M E Comp. Thiel. “ I'he Installing officers." by the chairman, responded to by M.E. Corap. Tniel, who gave the healths of Comps. Stanton and Holmes, who had been mainly instrumental in prornoti g the object of his mission ; responded to by the former. “The Canterbury Kilwinning K.A, Chapter,” was given by the chairman, and responded to by Comp. Booth, “The W.M. and officers of the Southern Star Lodge.” responded to by W.M. Bro, Maclean. M.E. Comp. Thiel proposed “The three Principals,” and M.E. Comp. Dobbs proposed “ The subordinate Officers of the Chapter,” responded to by thefi-st Principal and third Sojourner respectively. “ The newly exalted Companions,” to which Jomp. A. J. Richmond responded, and “ The visiting Brethren,” responded to by Brother T. M. Eoy. Comp. Dobl s, in a humorous speech, proposed “The Ladies,” to which Comp. Deacon was called upon to respond. Comp burn proposed the hea'tb of Comp. Squiies as a supporter of Masonry in years gone by, at a time when the ciaft needed such support. The health of Host Tregea was given, with a well deserved compliment for the very excellent manner in which he had provided on this occasion. The toasts were interspersed with music appropriate, and some very excellent addresses were listened to with much satisfaction. During the week M.E. Comp. Thiel and his brother d.E. Companions, have exalted and affiliated a number sufficient to create a strong and vigorous Chapter, and judging from the character of its leading Companions, a bright fut ure is looked for. 't’he following office-bearers have been duly installed and invested : —M.E. Comp. W. B. Sealy, Z. ; W. Westbrook Squires, H. ; U. Burn, j.; W. M. Stanton, E. ; A. MeKellar Wix, N.; W. Lightfoot, treasurer; W. Holmes, J. Hounsell, and L. G. Boor, Soj->. The Christchurch officers visited the Southern Star Lodge on October 13tn, and were much pleased with its order and working.

The M.E. Companions left for Canterbury by the s.s. Wellington, on October 17th, with the hearty good wishes of all Masons who had the pleasure of meeting them in Nelson ; no less than fifty of the craft attended at the fort to take leave of their Canterbury brethren.
