EAST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The election of a school committee for the East Christchurch educational district took place yesterday at the Oddfellows' Hall, The poll was opened at 9 a.m. and closed at 4 p.m. There seemed to be very little public interest taken in the result, and after the patience of the few who remained in the hall had been nearly exhausted by the slow manner in which the returns were made up, at twenty minutes to six o'clock the poll clerk handed the result of the polling to Mr Wynn Williams, who acted as Returning Officer, as follows :- Mr VV. H. Wynn Williams ... 222 Mr W. Dymock 204 Rev VV. J. Habens 198 Mr R. D. Thomas 187 Mr W. R. Mitchell 180 Mr J. P. Jameson ... ... 174 Mr H. W. Packer 169 Rev H. C. M. Watson 165 Mr A. Kirk 148 Rev E. A. Lingard 83 Mr P. Hobbs 82 Mr O.L.Lee 80 Mr D. G. Ward 66 Rev H. V. Glasson 53 Mr Williams then declared the first nine gentlemen to be duly elected. This concluded the proceedings.
