SPORTING.

The following is from the Argvs of October 24, the latest Melbourne date : As usual on Friday morning, the work done on the training-ground was of a very uninteresting character, and very few of the small assemblage of spectators who assem- v bled at the sheds early yesterday morning waited till the work was over. The first to appear were the New Zealanders Lurline and Calumny, who went once rsund at a steady gallop. Lurline was then joined by Rory O'More, who took her along for another mile and a half at a fast pace for some distance. Rory was then pulled off for a short distance, but came again, and brought the mare home fast. Lurline exhibited good form, and walked back to the box without showing signs of having made any effort. Calumny did a second round steady. The mare is still quoted at 100 to 7. The following arc the names of the horses remaining in the Melbourne Cup : The Diver After Dark Friendless Mountaineer The Hook Break of Day King of the King Protos Fugleman Haricot Fitz Yattendon Speculation Lurline Papapa Kettledrum Dagworth Horatio Cleolite Lapidist Gloom Goldsborough Arrow Goshawk Blue Peter King Tom Meni'ndie
