Plenty of whales were seen ; but she had not sufficient hands. Wanganui, Octuber 31. At the sale of Mr Daniel I’s cattle yesterday, high prices were realised. Well bred cows fetched A l 7 per head; ordinary antf inferior, £7 10s to £ls; old, £4 to £7; yearlings, htifers, £3 10s to £(! 10s. Forty yearlings, bulls, averaged £9 1 Os, Pure cows* fetched from £45 to £77. They were bouu'ht by Mr Nairn, of Napier. Mr Canning bought two at £BS and £9O. The bull Knight of the Crescent fetched £199; Knight of the Bath, £180; which fell to Mr Nairn of Napier. AU the best stock goes there. Ordinary ewes, with lambs, 80s, Thoroughbred horses up to £9O. mostly go to Napier. Wellington, October 31. The preliminary prospectus is in circulation of a joint stock company for the purchase of Thorndon Foreshore, which the contractor is now engaged in reclaiming. Shares in the New Zealand Times am offered at 7s discount, 15s paid up. A line of Heunessy’s bulk brandy has been quitted at9sßd; cases freely offered at 50s to 545, duty paid. Dunedin, October 31. Henry Bedford, the celebrated Victorian pedestrian, was charged at the Magistrates Court to-day with forgery at Sandhurst, and remanded to Victoria.
