MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, October 26. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) CREATING A DISTURBANCE. Ellen Jordan was charged with creating a disturbance in the Golden Age Hotel, on Saturday last and using abusive language to the landlady, The accused in defence, said that the landlady had followed her out and struck her. Fined 10s. JDRUNK AND DISORDERLY. William Hutton, for drunkenness, was fined 40s, or ninety-six hours and cab hire. Daisy Cornfoot, 20s, or forty-eight hours. John Clifford, 10s, or twenty-four hours, and Edward Goodacre, 10s, or twenty-four hours. LARCENY. Margaret Clark was charged with stealing an umbrella, belonging to Elizabeth Adams. When arrested, prisoner said she had purchased the umbrella at Strange’s. The evidence of having committed the theft was conclusive against the prisoner, and she was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor.
