THE COUNCIL AND THE CABMEN.
To the Editor of the Glohc. Sir, —Will you kindly call attention to the fact that at the meeting of the City Council, held last night, clause 34 was ordered to stand over for consideration. This clause, I may state, relates to the drivers of Hansom cabs carrying three in their cabs, and at the previous special meeting of the Council, I, and the rest of those present, understood that the clause was passed. If not, why did Councillor Gapes withdraw his amendment to the effect that the owners and drivers of Hansom cabs be allowed to carry more than two adults ? It is to be hoped that to-night all differences will be amicably settled, as I am sure that the City Council, as well as the cabmen, are only too anxious to have a proper, and at the same time, a just law, in force. Yours, &c, AMICUS CURIAE. Tuam street, Christchurch, October 21, 1874.
