Bells Concert.—The concert in aid of the funds being raised for the peal of bells at the German Church, will be repeated this evening, at the Oddfellows' Hall. The price of admission has been reduced to Is all over the house, and this, together with the very attractive programme offered, should draw a large audience.

Death of a Child from Burning.— The infant daughter of Mrs Bucknell, residing at Yaldhurst, was badly burnt on Friday last, which resulted in her death. It seems that Mrs Bucknell went out of the house for a few moments, leaving the child in its cradle, placed about a yard from the fire. On her return she found the cradle and bedclothes on fire, and on snatching up the child its clothes were aleo seen to be on fire. The child was quickly stripped, but was found to be much burnt. Remedies were applied, and the little sufferer taken to a medical man, but it died the same night. St Luke's.—The festival of St Luke the Evangelist, was celebrated yesterday by special services at this church. At 9 o'clock a choral celebration of the Holy Communion took place, the Rev E. A. Lingard, the incumbent, intoning the service. The music for the occasion was as follows : —Doxologies, Tallis ; Nicene Creed, in G; Kyrie, J. Goss; Sanctus, J. Davy; Gloria in Excelsis, Quadruple (adapted), At matins, the Rev E. A. Hayes, in F; Hymn after third Collect, 2tio; Introit, 180. In the afternoon a children's service was held, at which the Rev E. A. Linpard intoned, and the Rev C.J. Merton preached the sermon. For thi s service the music was asfollovvs:—Litany, Tallis; hymn before sermon, 229; hymn after sermon, 865. AtevensongtheßevH. J. Edwards,of St. Michael's, preached, the music being:— Processional hymn, 307 ; proper Psalms, cxi., exxxiii, cxlvii ; Magnificat, Battishil, in A ; Nunc Dimittis, Dr Hayes, in D ; anthem (Isaiah Hi, 7,9), Smith; hymn before sermon, 261 ; hymn after sermon, hymn 320. Mr Dugdale, organist of the church, conducted the musical portion of the services, which went well throughout. The offertories were towards the extinction of a debt of £4O, and the result of the services was nearly to clear this off,

New Bell.—A new bell was hung in a temporary tower constructed for the purpose at the Catholic Church, Lyttelton. It was made by Mr John Anderson, of Christchurch, and is of good tone, being rich and mellow. It cost about £7O including fixings. It is the intention of the members of the church to build a bell tower at no distant date, a plan of which, designed by Mr Jacobsen, is now in the hands of the committee. Diocesan Synod.—The annual session of the Diocesan Synod of Canterbury will be opened to-morrow at one p.m. at the College buildings, and special services will be held at St Michael's Church. In the morning' there will be a celebration of the Holy Communion at eleven, and in the evening full choral service at half-past seven. At the latter service the choirs of the town churches will, by the invitation of the Primate, unite under the precentorship of the Rev F. Pember. This, it is to be hoped, will be the first step towards the formation of a Choral Union in Canterbury.
