MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, October 12. [Before 0. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.] DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Ellen Thompson, arrested for being drunk and disorderly in the Court on Saturday last, was fined 40s, or ninety-six hours, and cautioned. Flora Martin, an old offender, arrested for being drunk and using obscene language in a public thoroughfare, was fined 40s, or ninety-six hours, and also cautioned that the next time she was brought before the Bench she would be dealt with as a vagrant. Mary Ann Greaves, for being drunk and soliciting prostitution near the theatre on Saturday night, was fined 40s, or ninety-six hours, and discharged. John Brown, arrested for being drunk and illegally on the premises of Mr Jackson, Colombo street, was fined 40s, or ninety-six hours. John Bradley, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 20s. John Sullivan, arrested for drunkenness, was charged under the Vagrant Act. The prisoner had taken food down to the depot for some women who were locked up, and created a disturbance because he was not permitted to see them. The evidence showed that prisoner lived with these women, and compelled them to give him money. His Worship told the prisoner what he thought of any man who led such a life, and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment with hard labor as a vagrant. LARCENY AS A BAILEE. William Rich, who had been arrested the previous night on the charge of the larceny of a horse, saddle, and bridle, belonging to John Hills, was remanded until Wednesday next for the production of evidence. LYTTELTON. Saturday, October 10. [Before H. E. Webb, and Adam Chalmers, Esqs., J.Ps.] ASSAULT. Mary Anderson was charged by Mrs Emma Baker with the above offence. Mr Henry N. Nalder appeared for the defendant. After hearing evidence of the complainant, and the statement of accused, the Bench dismissed the case, allowing Mr Nalder £1 Is. LARCENY. John Veigler and Samuel Parks were charged with stealing three guernsey shirts from the store of Matheson’s Agency. After hearing the evidence of the police, and the storeman at Matheson’s Agency, the Bench dismissed Veigler, and sentenced Parks to three months’ imprisonment, with hard labor,
