During the past year (says the Continenta I Herald) M. Ernst Stamm, an Alsatian engineer, devoted much time and care to the study of the question of a connexion between France and Italy independently of Swiss territory. With this object the idea of tunneling Mont Blanc is advocated by him in a paper which has been read by M. Stamm before the Mulhouse. A survey proves that while Charaounix is 3445 ft above the sea level, and Entrdves, on the south, 4210 ft, a tunnel between the two points would not be longer, nor its gradients more difficult, than the Mont Cents tunnel.
