In the Supreme Court, Charles Blake, for knocking a man down and robbing him in Symonds street, was sentenced to two years. A gentleman here is corresponding with Sydney, with a view to getting a New South Wales cricket team to come over.

Caledonians are down to five pounds fifteen shillings, result it is supposed of a proposition to remodel the company and increase the shares and capital. Reefton, October 6.
A large public meeting has been held to urge the Provincial Government to maintain the Greymouth road property, and purchase Dalton's suspension bridge. Great indignation is expressed at the Government neglect of the district, and resolutions to that effect were passed. So many waggons have capsized in the ruts, that they have contemplated withdrawing from the road. The Herald publishes this morniug a private letter from the South African diamond fields, deprecating any rush to the Transvaal goldfields.

Dunedin, October 7. The Harbor Board takes time to consider the appointment of an engineer. There are twenty-four applications. The Messrs Brogden offer to do the work of deepening the harbor on reasonable terms.
