THE NEW ZEALANDERS IN MELBOURNE.
By our late files from Australia we gather that Lurline is going very well, and it would seem from the accounts of the latest betting that she has come a little more into favor, as she is now quoted at 100 to 6 instead of 100 to 4. Calumny is reported to be very queer in her feet, and we fear that this mare has seen her best days as a racehorse. Papapa was also on the sick list when the last steamer left, but probably the ailment was only sufficient to cause a temporarysuspension from work, If all goes well with the old mare she will yet see a much shorter price than 100 to 6, and those who are desirous of investing on her chance should do so at once, as she is not likely to be at longer odds before the race, unless some untoward accident should happen to her.
The handicapper at Wagga Wagga has let Lurline and Papapa in very fairly for the races for which they are entered, their allotted imposts being Wagga Grand S. H. Town Cup. Plate.

Petting —9 to 4 agst Doncaster, 5 to 2 agst Organist, 3 to 1 agst Kaiser, 8 to 1 agst Barbillon, and 25 to 1 each agst Lilian and Miss Toto. The flag falling at the first attempt, they ran in a line for a dozen strides, when Lilian was sent to the fore, and cut out the work clear of Doncaster and Barbillon, with Kaiser and Organist next, and Miss Toto last. This order was not long maintained, as before turning out of the straight Organist drew into second place, Barbillon at the same time going on third, and Doncaster fourth, with Miss Toto not less than ahundred yards behind Kaiser. With the exception of Miss Toto the lot kept respectable company although in Indian file, until half-way round the clump, when Kaiser joined Doncaster, and had passed him at the mile post, where Organist was level with Lilian, and if anything, had his head in advance for a few strides. Before reaching the top of the hill, however, his fate was sealed, and with Barbillon in simultaneous difficulties, Kaiser Z'aced up to his stable companion, and deprived her of the command before entering the straight, with Doncaster following the pair at a clear interval, and Miss Toto considerably closer to the other two. When fairly in the line for home Doncaster became the immediate attendant of Kaiser, and still indulged him with a good command until entering the rails, when he gradually got on fighting terms, and looked like obtaining the best of it, without much difficulty, to the half-distance. Here, however, Webb had to call upon him in earnest to assert his supremacy, and although he at once answered, he was bearing to the left at last, and only won an exciting race, with little to spare, by a neck. Lilian having been stopped at the bottom of the hill, Miss Toto finished a very bad third and the other two walked in. Time—4min 53isec.
AQUATIC,
Last week a telegram appeared stating that a £IOOO prize would be given at the anniversary regatta at Sydney. From the Sydney Town and Country we take the following on the subject:—"The Anniversary Regatta committee adopted the programme for the regatta of 1875 on Tuesday. There are fourteen events. In case of gentlemen amateur crews coming from England and America to compete with Australian crews, a prize of £IOOO will be given. As the regatta takes place in January, there will be little time for 'gentlemen crews,' to avail themselves of the liberal offer of £IOOO, which is no doubt a modification of the proposal made by some enthusiastic sportsmen some time ago to invite the champion pullers of the world to meet on the Sydney course, and frank them out, besides giving them a prize of £IOOO to pull for against a picked Australian crew."
