Port Chalmers, October 3. The immigration to the port of Dunedin for the quarter ending 30th September—From United Kingdom amounted to 4496 souls, from Australia 492, and from Africa 1, total 4989. The emigration from the port for the same period amounted to 667 souls, leaving a net increase of 4322 souls. One hundred and twenty-seven of the emigrants were going to neighboring provinces. The immigrants per ship Christina McAusland have not yet got in. Wellington, October 3. The Times says that a telegram was received yesterday stating that several members of the family of King Potatau are en route for Auckland, this being their first visit to that city since the last war. On dit, that a large wool firm here has sold their business to the Otago Investment Company, and that the principal member retains the management, with a salary of £3OOO yearly. A party of miners at the Shotover got £I.OOO worth of gold in six weeks. Two Danes, working near, cleared £9O weekly. Captain Underwood telegraphs that if the Tararua can force her way against the gale as far as the Solanders, she will save the mail, but that is very doubtful. October 3. The stock assessment for 1874-5, exclusive of Southland, is £54,018 lls Bd. The stock assessed is 7000 great, and 1,810,000 small cattle. There was also payable at Invercargill yesterday, £6OOO.
