SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

EAST CHRISTCHURCH, A meeting of the East Christchurch school committee was held on Tuesday, 29th. Present—W. H. Wynn Williams (chairman), Rev H. C. M. Watson, W. J. Habcns, and Messrs Dymock and Pratt. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. On the question of the building rate about to be levied by the Government, it was resolved —“ That the chairman be requested to write to the Government, and urge upon them to postpone the collection of the rate for the present, as the City Council were pressing their rate, and the two in conjunction would press heavily on the ratepayers. Mr Pratt reported the result of his enquiries into the repairs, &c, required at Avonside school, lately occupied by the committee. It was resolved to have the necessary repairs effected at once. A letter was received from Mr Beatty in reference to his section of land used by the boys attending the Music Hall school as a playground. Consideration deferred. The chairman and the Rev H. C. M. Watson were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for the opening of the South town belt school on Monday next. The chairman was requested to draft the annual report, and submit the same to the next meeting of the committee. After passing some accounts the meeting adjourned to Tuesday the 6th.
