The high tide flooded the streets and damaged the gardens along the beach. From the appearance of the weather the gale is not yet spent. Greytown, September 29, The rain continues. Traffic is suspended. Masterton is flooded by the Waipoua. The Rimahunga bridge, at Te Oreore is injured. Miles of fencing are destroyed near Masterton, and there is great loss of cattle and sheep throughout the district. The Waihenga bridge is all right, but several smaller bridges beyond Gones, and all the culverts and bridges at Greytown are more or less damaged. TiMARU, Sept 29. There has been heavy weather for the last few days, and the rivers North and South are in big flood. The northern approach of the Opihi bridge is washed away, and also the embankment in the Tengawai river. THIS HATS TELEGRAMS. Blenheim, September 30. The Opawa has burst its banks, and flooded the whole town. Foot traffic was resumed to-day. The vicinity of the river is much flooded still. Greytown, September 30. An attempt was made yesterday afternoon to carry the Wellington mails through Abbott’s Creek in a trap. The driver was nearly drowned, and the mails lost. The floods are subsiding. The Masterton coach tried to reach Greytown this morning, but could not succeed. Wellington, September 30. The diocesan synod of the Church of England commenced yesterday. The bishop delivered an elaborate address regarding the position of the Church of England in New Zealand, and other matters of interest.
