EX-FOREMAN BURGESS’ CASE.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sir — l observe that Councillor Raphael gave notice at the last sitting of the City Council that he would move at the sitting of the Council on September 28th, “That all paper relating to the discharge of ex-Fore-man Burgess be laid on the table. ” lam extremely glad to see that Councillor Raphael has taken this matter up, as, from what I can ascertain, the question wants a thorough investigation. As I understand it, the character of two public servants is involved, so that nothing should be hidden under a bushel, but, on the contrary, everything connected with this most unfortunate transaction should be thoroughly exposed. It would appear that ex-Foreman Burgess _ courts an inquiry, and desires that everything should be brought to light. Let me express a hope that the Council will throw no obstacle in the way of this being done—that they will not endeavour to burke an inquiry which may have the effect of removing a stigma from a man who has held employment from the Council for upwards of eleven years. I trust that, notwithstanding anything Councillor Ick said at the Oddfellows’ Hall, or may say at the City Council Chamber, Councillor Raphael will insist upon investigating this matter in some shape or other, and that you, sir, will assist him by calling attention to it in your journal. Yours, &c, WORKING MAN. September 28th, 1874.
