A COOL AFFAIR.

"The coolest affair ever known to our citizens " is described at some length by a correspondent in Texas, whose account, slightly abridged, is as follows :—Mr Har rington and his brother-inlaw, Mr Baggett, are two well-known and respected individuals between whom an old family feud exists. One day Harrington went to the river to fish, left his rifle on the bank, but took a pistol with him to the water's edge in caße he caught an unmanageable prize. All at once he heard a noise behind him, and looking up, saw Baggett standing over him with an oar upraised to strike, threatening to kill him. Harrington immediately fired his pistol, the ball lodging in the left shoulder of Baggett, who fell into the water. After floating around for some little time, he begged Harrington to help him out 'as he had already killed him.' This Harrington consented to do, and after much hard work succeeded in getting him upon the bank. Mr Baggett then asked his obliging foe to run for the doctor, as he was dying. Harrington accordingly shouldered his shot-gun and set off running, when Bagget reached for his rifle, and, exclaiming that he could not wait for the doctor and that his adversary should not ' get off so easy,' fired, striking Harrington in the right side. Harrington responded by sending a load of shot into Baggett's arm, and then walked home and told his friends what had happened. Both gentlemen were soon in the hands of doctors, and, when last heard of, were both likely to recover, with 'nomore hard feeling between tham than there is between rival pugilists.'"
