WESTLAND. We (Times) learn that the arbitrators, Messrs G. G. Fitz Gerald and W. 11. Robinson, have given in their award in favor of the Leviathan Water-race Company. The award is for £7SO to be paid by the Government to the company, with the cost of the hearing. Z^2 The Westland Provincial Government have determined to put in force The Westland Kducation Ordinance, 1874, and have appointed the first election of members of the local committees to take place on the Bth of October. Good news reached town yesterday, says the West Coast Times of the 17th, from the Caledonian mine at LarryV, iu the Inanguhua district. The mining manager of the company telegraphed to the legal manager, Mr Beit, that gold had been struck lower clown in the shaft", which shows greater thickness than anything yet found in the mine. The prospects of this company are exceedingly promising, .and after the first crushing it is certain that there will be a great alteration in the maiket value of the block.
