HORRIBLE MURDER.
The Cologne Gazette of the 16fch June contains an account of a frightful case of double murder committed at Mulhausen, in Alsace, on the 12th inst. A fellow named Joseph Most, between twenty and thirty years of age, had lived for about a year, but not on the best terms, with his mother, a widow, two sisters of twenty and eleven years old respectively, and a brother of seventeen. He had repeatedly, and especially recently, denounced the eldest sister before the police as the poisoner of his father, whilst there were not, to all appearances, the slightest grounds for suspecting her. A few weeks ago he left his mother’s house and took one for himself. On the evening the crime was committed, towards eleven o’clock, he suddenly appeared, armed with a newly-purchased dagger knife, at the residence of his mother, got gently over the yard gate, put the dogs into the house, and then passed through the kitchen, first of all into the sleeping-room of his brother, whom he killed by a deep plunge of the dagger into his throat. The murderer then tried to get into his mother’s room, which was provided with a glass door, and in which were also the sisters, all of whom had been awoke by the noise. These, with the exception of the younger sister, who fled through the window into the street screaming for help, held the glass door with all their might Tne murderer struck in the panes of glass, and thrusting his knife through the opening, inflicting severe blows upon his mother, till she succeeded in making her escape through the window. The elder sister, who had already received several wounds, could not hold the door any longer, and was at once fatally wounded by the inhuman brother. He then struck a light, and said to his sister, “ Are you dead 7” As she opened her eyes, he struck in cold blood once more the dagger into her breast, saying, “ There, I will give you one more, that you may have enough 1” Hereupon he betook himself to his own house, changed his clothes, and then went out. But at about half-past twelve that night he was apprehended in the street, when he quietly allowed himself to be conducted away. The murderer has since confessed.
