Oflicial returns show that the amount yielded by direct taxation in France during January and February was 11 (),00(),000f. — 5,fi00,000f. more than in the preceding two months. The property tax had in the first quarter of the present year yielded more than the estimate; and the indirect taxes, though yielding 1,000.000 f. loss than the estimate, had produced in the quarter 12,000,000 f. more than in the corresponding quarter ot last year.
