(Per Anglo-Australian Press Telegraph Agency.) Auckland, September 1. A meeting at Oneliunga condemned Mr Vogel's resolutions, and a motion was passed approving of Mr O’Rorke’s action. At the nomination for the Waitemata district Messrs MacFarlane and Yon der Heyde were prooosed. The show of hands was in favor of the former. The South British Insurance Company’s half-year closed yesterday. They will probably pay a dividend of 10 per cent, the income from investments equalling the amount required for the dividend. Arrived —Luna. Wellington, Sept 1. The Tribune urges that, in consequence of the impending change, and to prevent a hitch in public business when provincial institutions come to an end, a meeting of the Provincial Council should be called immediately. It says the Provincial Government are without money, and that the operations of the Education Board have been brought to a standstill through the non-payment of the grant voted to it by the Council; an i that even should the land at Orona, under offer to Mr Douglass of Otago, be sacrificed, the price will do no more than meet the overdraft at the bank. The difficulties of the position, it says, have become well nigh intolerable. THIS DAY'S TELEGRAMS. Wellington, Sept 2. Arrived—The St Leonard’s, ship, with twenty cabin passengers. It is reported that Mr Atkinson has accepted a seat in the cabinet. Auckland, Sept, 2, An attempt was made yesterday to serve a detainer on the ship Miltiades in the Rangitotc while she was goingout. The detainer was issued from the Admiralty Court, at Ihe suit of the crew of the Lady Bowen, for salvage ; but the crew of the Miltiades threatened violence to the Officer of the Court, if he attempted to board the vessel. He therefore lied the writ to the cable, and retreated. The ship sailed during 11 e night. The difference at issue was settled this morning by the owner of the Lady Bowen offering the crew £SOO out of the £1625 award, which was accepted. The, City of Auckland has arrived from London after a passage of 107 days. She brings thirty passengers but no immigrants. One child died during the voyage. She experienced terrific weather in the latter part of the passage for four days. She had every sail that was set blown out of the ship. All well. Arrived—The s.s. Taranaki.
