Bluff, August 12. The s.s. Omeo, Captain Calder, left Melbourne at 6 p.m. on the sth. and arrived at the Bluff at 8 p.m. on the 12th. She brings 25 saloon and 50 steerage passengers, 350 tons cargo, and 36 horses, for all ports. She sails for Dunedin at noon to-day. Passengers for Lyttleton— saloon : Messrs Slater, Lee, Mrs Lee, and 5 steerage; 1 horse, 50 tons of cargo. London, July 30. Bank rate of discount 3 per cent. July 31. A majority of the Brussel's Congress are in favor of a limitation of the humanitarian question. Paeis, July 31. The Assembly has definitely resolved to adjourn from the GLh of August till the 3rd of November. A motion for raising the state of siege on the Spanish frontier has been rejected. France has notified that she will again act in unison with the other powers regarding the recognition (?) of the Spanish Government. The " Journal Official" has published a note disclaiming the pastoral of the Archbishop of Paris, attacking Italy. London, August 2. Money is tightening. An advance in the rate of discount is expected. At the Liverpool wool sales prices advanced a half-penny. The arrivals for the next London sales amount to 220,000 bales. Market firm. The Assembly met yesterday when Mr Kerford detailed the circumstances of the ministerial reconstruction, aud stated that be should follow the policy of the last administration, but did not intend to send the reform bill to the Upper House ; the bill would, however, be submitted early next session, and the present session would be brought to a close as soon as possible. The statement was not received with much favour. Mr Langton then explained his reasons for withdrawing from the Government, the principal of which was the disagreement between himself and Mr Casey on the question of expenses for journeying about the country, which he declined to sanction, and a general expose was afforded to the House, which subsequently formed the subject of a debate in the (Jouncil. Sir Francis Murphy, and others severely censured the action of the Government in illegally putting the office of Chief Secretary in commission. Ministerial prospects are not bright, and the tariff question is likely to prove troublesome. Frederick Koch has been sentenced to death. The Beaufort murderer has been sentenced to ten years' imprisonment. A boy named Robert Watson sixteen years of age has committed suicide near Wodonga, by shooting himself, he was threatened to be given in charge for theft. A decree of nullity of marriage has been granted in the case of Bishop v Bishop. Robert Rice, mate of the ship Oak worth, charged with making a false entry in the log book, was discharged. In the libel case, Filgate v a verdict was given for the plaintiff with £2O damages. . Over £4OOO was netted at the last Spring Meeting by the Racing Club. At a meeting of the Tookey Company, opposition was offered to any increase of the capital of the company at present, or to any mortgage of the property, that might have the effect of making the shareholders liable to the New Zealand Government for their share of the proposed loan. The meetiug adjourned, in order give time for the consideration of the position of the company. Madame Goddard will shortly visit New Zealand. The cable between Singapore and Batavia was interrupted for three days; communication is now restored. Mr Redwod's horses arrived yesterday in fine order. Sydney. Mr Levy has been elected for Maitland by a large majority. The Mikado sailed for San Francisco on Saturday. A flood at Yass inundated the town. The brig Ellen Norros has been lost on the coast of New Caledonia. The crew were saved. Blondin arrives next week. Adelaide. Mr Ross, the leader of Mr Elder's exploration committee, has returned to Strangway's Creek, aud is expected to reach Stuart's Creek on Saturday. SHIPPING. Newcastle. It is finally arranged that Mr Service is to be Treasurer and Mr Ramsay PostmasterGeneral. Kingsbury is a strong favorite for the Hawkesbury Guineas, and Dagvvorth for the Handicap. Tasmania. The Colonial Treasurer estimates the revenue for 1874 at £265,000 ; for 1875 at £311,000; expenditure on public works, £IOO,OOO. Sydney. The A.S,N. Company have declared a dividend of 12J per ceut. The steamer City of Adelaide has again been chartered for the San Francisco mail service, and will leave Sydney for Aucklaud on the 14th of August to convey outward mails. The Tartar is now on her way from San Francisco, and is to be sent back by (Jhina. The Cyphrenes will be the next through steamer. The Victorian Government astronomer thinks that the comet now visible is not Coggias. Gardiner, the bushranger was sent to liong Hong.
