SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
RANGIORA. This committee; met at the usual hour on Friday last. Present The Rev Canon Dudley, Messrs Blackett, Bell, Luxton, Stephens, Aherne, and Cunningham (chairman), The sub committee appointed to superintend the fencing and planting reported that they had received a number of trees from the Government gardener, but that there would not be sufficient pines to form one row around the plantation, and it was resolved that the Board be requested to sanction the purchase of a quantity not exceeding £3 worth, to carry out the intention of the committee. Mr Stephens was requested to direct the men whilst planting. It was resolved that the chairman consult with the master and mistress respecting the allotment of the prizes. Also that special prizes in each school be given for the most regular attendance. A plan for the mistress’s cottage was submitted, but the consideration of it was deferred for a fortnight. The programme for Thursday next, on the opening of the school, was then considered, when it was decided that Mr Bowen, chairman of the Board of Education,be requested to distributethe prizes to the successful competitors at three o’clock, when all the children will assemble; that tea be served at half-past four and that a luncheon be provided in one of the class rooms for the members of Government, Board of Education, School Committee, and others. The entertainment was determined to bo held in the boys’ schoolroom. Letters were read stating that Messrs Bowen, Montgomery,Maude, Joynt, and others, would attend, and it was decided to ask them to address the meeting. A programme of an excellent character will also be submitted in the intervals. Messrs Aherne and Stephens were appointed doorkeepers for the occasion.
It was resolved that the ladies who contribute the trays, be requested to meet on Monday afternoon to decide upon any necessary work required previous to the occasion, ami the committee agreed to meet in the evening of the same day to receive their suggestions and to transact other business. The proceedings then terminated.
