The Wurtemberg journals announce that a robbery has just been committed at the mausoleum of the Rahenberg, Stuttgart, which contains the ashes of King William and Queen Catherine, nee Grand Duchess of Russia. The thieves blew open the doors of the vault with gunpowder, and carried off all the valuable objects they could find—the whole, in gold and precious stones, being worth 500,000 francs. The thieves have been arrested.

Marshal Concha, who was killed at the battle of Estella, as recorded by our telegrams, was born (says a contempory) at Ruenoes Ayres, in 1808, His father was Captain Concha, who was there killed by the insurgents. Manual had recently distinguished himself in command of a corps d’armee against the Carlists, was sixty-six years of age, and a fine specimen of the veteran soldier. His great fait d’annes was the capture of Oporto, in 1847, when the British fleet, under Admiral Parker, cooperated in the suppression of a Portuguese insurrection against the reigning dynasty. For this he was created Marquis del Duero. In 1854 he again showed marvellous courage on the occasion of a military revolt in Barcelona. The troops in the citadel refused to surrender, and he entered the place alone, telling his supporters to storm the fortress if in half an hour they did not see the white flag hoisted, for then they would know he was dead, His audacity overawed the insurgents, and they laid down their arms at his command. He was considered the first tactician of Spain, and was as popular as he was brave. !

In the province of the Danube the authorities have, according to the “ Levant Herald,” hit upon an original and ingenious method of replenishing the coffers of the department of Public Instruction. In their anxiety to diffuse useful knowledge among all classes of the population, the heads of this department have made a simple and touching appeal to the charity of the Mussulman public. All that they ask is that the skins of the sheep sacrificed during the festival of Bairara should be set apart and sold for the benefit of the public schools. Some people, as might have been expected, have been selfish enough to reject the proposal, preferring to reserve to themselves the skins of the slaughtered animals, but the bulk of householders in the province appear to have responded to the call with a readiness which does them credit, and a vast number of sheepskins have in a short time been collected and sold. A considerable sum was realised by the sale, which if judiciously laid out will go far to support the interests for which it has been contributed.
