Beautiful Star arrived in harbor at noon yesterday from Dunedin via Timaru, and will sail on her return trip to-morrow. The s.s. Taranaki sailed for Northern ports at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. The schooner Emerald arrived from Picton this morning with timber. The schooner Albatross cleared the Customs for Auckland this morning. A barque supposed to be the Hopeful, from the Bluff, was coming up the harbor when our express left. A barque supposed to be the Union from Newcastle was coming up the harbour when our express left, SHIP DUNEDIN. The following address to Miss McConachie was presented to her on her arrival by the young women of the ship Dunedin : “ Dear Miss McConachie,—Now that your task is over, and we have arrived in safety at the end of our voyage, we wish to express our gratitude to you for the kind and attentive manner in which you have discharged your duties during the time we have been under your care and protection. “We have undertaken a long and perilous journey to seek a new home far from the land of our birth, and the sisterly indulgence you have shown us during the passage will not readily be forgot. “ We have now to part with you, and seek individually whatever may be in store for us in this the country of our adoption. “ In bidding you farewell, we wish you a kind farewell ; also wish you every success in after life, and beg of you to accept this small token of our esteem as a memento of the voyage in the ship Dunedin from the Clyde to New Z •aland. “ We are, dear madam, “ Affectionately yours, “ With the united wishes of twenty-eight young women.” The following was her reply :—“ I assure you, my young friends, that I accept this token of your regard with great pleasure. Until to-day 1 had no anticipation of receiving any such evidence of your esteem, and believe me I shall with pride prize it so long as I live, and think of you individually kindly. We were mercifully cared fur during our sojourn on board the Dunedin, but any kindness I showed you was in the discharge of my duty. Being now about to separate. I wish you all success in your several vocations, and shall at all times be pleased to hear about you ; and I hope that ere long you will feel more reconciled, and enjoy much pleasure and prospeiity in the country of your adoption. While bidding you farewell, permit me to remind you "that industry and good conduct lead to succiss in life ; also, that although some of you have parted with your best earthly friends, always remember that there is one Friend who sticketh closer than ft brother, and who, if you strive to

learn of Him, will never leave nor forsake you, but who will, as mouths and years are borne down the stream of time into the wide sea of eternity, guide you in safety until death, and after death be your exceeding great reward.”
