SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
WEST CHHIBTOHUBOH. The committee met on Wednesday evening the first instant, at seven o’clock. Present — Messrs Thornton (in 'the chair), Bird, Craig, Harris, Thompson, and McNic. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The following letters were read. From the Board of Education, sanctioning the purchase of a striking clock as proposed by the committee, the district to contribute one fourth of the cost by local contributions ; also sanctioning the payment of lent for Addington and Montreal street schools. From H. Becchey, applying for rc-appoint-ment as French master. It was decided to advertise for tenders for a suitable turret striking clock for the Lincoln road school.
The secretary was directed to inform Mr Bcechey that the committee decline to reengage him. On the motion of Mr Harris, it was decided that the new school on Lincoln road be opened on the sixth day of August next, that being the anniversary of the election of the committee, and that an entertainment should be given, a small charge to be made for admission and the proceeds to be expended in prizes and a treat for the children attending the scbpols of the district. The secretary was directed to pay the teachers’ salaries as soon as possible. The committee then adjourned.
