The schooner Dauntless has arrived from New Caledonia ; she reports the schooner Mary Stewart a total wreck at the New Hebrides, The crew were picked up in an open boat at sea, and taken to Noumea. Admiral Ribout had arrived at Noumea, from France, to enquire into the escape of Rochefort. All the Communists will be removed to the Island of Pines and another island to be selected. Bateman has been sent to France to fulfil his term of imprisonment. The convict executioner was murdered by one of the convicts on the 20th of June ; the murderer was afterwards guillotined. Duels are very prevalent; three took place on the 20th of June ; one between St Devarcune and GuiHemaire, of the gens d’ arraes ; the latter was killed. Permission was given to fight from the Governor, who attended the funeral, and addressed the soldiers upon upholding their honor, even at the cost of life. Auckland, July 8. Arrived—Papua from Rorotongo. The master reports the total wreck of the schooner Tanner at the islands. The schooner Herald from Fiji brings news to June 28th, There is nothing of importance. The Government troops had achieved another victory over the mountaineers of Vitu Levu. Eighty of the enemy were killed. THIS DA YS TELEGRAMS. Auckland, July 9. Airived—The Helena, from Lyttelton. Heremia Paopo, charged with murdering another native at AVangaroa, was found guilty, but recommended to mercy. During the evidence it was alleged that Tiraoti held improper intimacy with the prisoner’s wife. Sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. Wellington, July 9. Five publicans were fined £5 each this morning for selling liquor on Sunday.
