City of Adelaide arrived in haTbor on Saturday from Dunedin ; she left Lyttelton for Port Chalmers at 11.30 a.m. on 3rd ; left again for Northern Ports with a full complement of saloon passengers, amongst them the members for the Southern Provinces. She sailed for north on Saturday afternoon, at 2 30, carrying the outward San Francisco mail. Thes.s. Tararua, Captain Clark, arrived in harbor on Saturday at 8 a.m. from Melbourne via West Coast Ports and Wellington ; the sailed for South (u Saturday evening, with the outward English Suez mail. McMcckan, Blackwood and Co's ltoyal Mail steamship Albion, arrived in harbor on Sunday morning, 8 o'clock ; she left Melbourne at U p.m. on the 27th ult, and arrived at the Bluff at 2.30 a.m. on the 2nd inst; Icit'again at 8.30 p.m., and arrived at Port Chalmers at 7.30 a.m., 3rd ; the northern portion of the mail was transhipped to the City of Adelaide ; left Port Chalmers at 4.45 p.m. 3rd, and anchored off Kakanui at 9 p.m. Owing to heavy sea was unable to load grain, and after waiting until 4 p.m. 4th, sailed under easy steam, arriving as above. She sails for North this day. The s.s. Phoebe, Captain Worep, anived in harbor on Saturday, at I p.m, from Dunedin. Owing to the tide and the berths at the various wharves being occupied, she was unable to be berthed until late in the afternoon; she had 20 tons of cargo to discharge, and about 75 tons to take in. Owing to some difficulty with the seamen refusing to work overtime, she was obliged to leave without taking any cargo for Northern Ports, only a few packages of luggage being shipped by her. Thes.s. Beautiful Star arrived yesterday afternoon, but having powder on board she anchored off Rhodes Bay to discharge it. There was no communication with the vessel up to the time of our despatch leaving. She sails for South this day at 4 p.m. The schooners Magellan Cloud and Flying Cloud, timber laden, arrived in harbor on Saturday morning. The s.s. Star of the South arrived in harbor yesterday from Dunedin. She sails for Northern Ports this day.

SHIP DUNEDIN. The following address was presented to Brother John Whitson, master of the ship DunediD, on St John's Day, June 24th, 1874. " Sir and Brother,—This being St John's Day wc, the Free and Accepted Masons on board your ship, bound from Greenock to Canterbury, New' Zealand, take this opportunity of expressing to you our sense of the many kindnesses received at your hands, and to thank you for them. We are proud to see a brother'in command of so fine a vessel, and thankful that the Great Architect Divine has endowed you with that power which enables you to bear such responsibilities as must attend the command of a ship carrying 500 human beings. We have observed with Masonic pleasure the manner in which you have treated the passengers, bringing all to a level and within the compass of the greatest moderation and forbearance to which Masonic love 'can extend. We are certain that if at any time you may chance to visit any of our mother lodges, you will meet with a hearty welcome, as you will with each ol us should we ever meet you on shore. " [ knew none of you to belong to the Masonic body, and am proud to see that spirit of independence which made you keep aloof, as all true Masons dislike trading on the order. " I am glad I have so many on board, and I trust that, following in the footsteps of the Great Architect, you will have that success in your several callings which yourselves and the grand principles you represent deserve. I will be happy to meet you at all times, when I hope you will be more comfortable than I could make you at sea. Wishing you every success in the land of your adoption.
