ROAD BOARDS.

RICCARTON. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Thursday at the office, Cashel street west. Present—Messrs G. A. Durey (chairman), Nunweek, Patterson, and Inwood. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Secretary for Public Works (in reply), stating that the Government is not at present disposed to alter its decision in respect of the building of cottages for immigrants so close to town. A letter was read from the Spreydon Road Board, stating that it was proposed to reform and make a footpath on the eastern side of the Lincoln road, and asking if the Riccarton Board would agree to it. The surveyor was directed to reply that the Board would contribute one-half of the estimated cost. Also, to ask if it is the intention of the Spreydon Board to continue the gravelling of the Lincoln road to the Belt. A letter was received from Mr Webb, asking the Board to repair the road from section 825 to the Fendaltown road. The surveyor was directed to comply with the request. It was decided to let the forming of Donald's road to D. Philpott, as Miller and Willis, to whom the contract had been let, had failed to carry out the work ; and the surveyor was directed to consult the Board's solicitors, with a view to recovering the difference in the contract price. It was decided to defer the gravelling of Twigger's road until spring, as carting on it in its present state would do more harm than good. The surveyor was directed to engage an extra horse and tip cart for repairing the main roads. Mr Inwood asked leave to take a few loads of gravel from the reserve at Fendaltown, which was granted. The following resolution was proposed by Mr Nunweek, secouded by Mr Patterson, aud carried :—" That in the event of the Provincial Council passing an Act to exchauge gravel reserve i)3a with Mr Boag, a deputation of the whole Board wait on his Honor the Superintendent to protest against it."
