They knocked him down and kicked him, breaking his jaw in two places, and inflicting other injuries, which resulted fatally. A brick store, with a wooden building attached, belonging to Mr Ohlson, a manufacturer of tomato sauce, was burned this morning. When first observed the fire was coming through the lower window. Nothing could be done to save it. The store was filled with sauce and bottles. The stock and premises were insured in the New Zealand office for £2OOO, and in the Boyal for £IOOO.

Dunedin, July 4. A large fire took place in Princes street this morning, at A. R. Hayes', draper. The cause is unknown; it is supposed from defective store. There was no one on the premises. The building was gutted. Hoggard and Hutton were threatened, but only damaged by water. Hayes' insurance : The building in 'he South British for £IOOO, and in Liverpool London, and Globe, for £IOOO ; in the London and Lancashire, £500; doubtful. The stock was insured in the Australian Alliance, for £IOOO ; and the Victorian, for £IOOO. Hoggard Button's damage is covered by insurance for £IOOO in the Norwich Union.
