AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee of the above association was held yesterday afternoon at Tattersall’s. Present Messrs R. Wilkin (chairman), W. Holley, W. Norman, W. Henderson, H. E. Alport, J. Gebbic, H. Washbourne. senr, J. Mcßeth, A. A. Fautham, T. Acland, H. J. Hall, Hon E. W. Stafford, H. P. Murray-Aynsloy, J. T. Matson, J, Mann, Thomas Bruce, and J. T. Ford (hon sec). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The secretary brought up the recommendations of the sub-committee with reference to the revision of the catalogue. The chairman remarked that he thought shillings should be done away with, and the prize in each case made pounds. Either let them all be pounds or guineas. A motion was then carried that where guineas occur in the catalogue the amount be made pounds. The recommendations were discussed seriatim and adopted with a few alterations. In the Southdown breed of sheep, it was carried that the word “ Southdown ” remain as formerly, and the words “ any other Down ”be added. The words “ even where there is competition ” were added to regulation No, 12, and cured and preserved meats and fruits, were placed in the same class. The entrance fee in New Zealand Manufactures was increased to 5s for non-mem-bers.
A motion was carried—“ That a piece of plate of the value of £2, be given for the best exhibit in each class of the different breeds of long-woolled sheep, instead of the prize of £5 5s formerly given for the best ram and ewe of any long-woolled breed.” Mr Holly proposed, and Mr Henderson seconded, a resolution —“ That the Association’s medal —as a champion prize, be given to the best draught entire horse, draught mare, best bull, and cow or heifer on the ground.” Carried. It was resolved that prizes of £3 each be awarded for the best Whitechapel cart, and single-seated buggy, with or without hood, to be of colonial manufacture.
Mr R. Wilkin moved, “ That all entries must be lodged with the secretary by Wednesday night, sth November, to be made on printed forms, which can be obtained from the secretary ; these forms to be filled in and signed by the exhibitor,or some person on his behalf, and be accompanied with the entrance fee.” Carried,
The following resolution, proposed by Mr Wilkin, was also carried : —“ That all sheep must be on the ground and penned by 12 o’clock, the morning of the day before the show.”
A resolution, “ That all protests be made in writing one hour after the prize tickets have been affixed to the pens,” was carried Mr Ford moved, “ That no exhibitor be allowed to have more than two entries in any one class.” Mr Mcßeth seconded the motion, which was carried. It was resolved, “ That the gates be opened to the general public after 2 p.m on the day before the show, the entrance fee to be 5s ; and on the day of the show, from 9 a.m to 12 p.m, admission 2s 6d, the entrance fee after that hour to be Is.” The meeting then adjourned.
