WEST CHRISTCHURCH EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT.

A meeting of the committee of this district was held on the evening of the 17th instant, at 7 o’clock, when there were present—Messrs Thornton (in the chair), Brown, Harris, Hawkcs, Thomson, and M‘Nie. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr Bourkc, stating that he was obliged to proceed to Melbourne at the end of this month, and, consequently, could not accede to the request of the committee that he should remain until the new school buildings were completed. It was resolved to close the Montreal street school in consequence of Mr Bourke’s resignation, and to issue circulars to the parents of the children attending that school, stating that provision would be made for the girls at the Lincoln road girls’ school, and for the boys at the Addington boys’ school, the pupil teacher, Christina Whyte, to be transferred to Lincoln road. The sub-committee for Lincoln road school reported that they had instructed the architect to have two lantern lights put in the roof of the girls’ school-room, which was approved. It was decided that a moveable platform be constructed for the infant school-room, to be made in two parts, and placed across the end of the room, the size to be the same as stated in the original plan. The secretary was directed to instruct Mr Farr to prepare a plan and specification for the necessary outbuildings at Lincoln road, with estimate of cost, to be submitted to the committee at a special meeting to be held on the school ground at 4 o’clock on Monday afternoon. On the motion of Mr Harris it was decided that the sanction of the Board be asked for the purchase by the committee of a clock for the tower of the new school, provision for that purpose being made in the plans, the secretary to state that the committee would prefer a clock with striking apparatus
