Buyers—National Insurance, 27s Gd ; National Bank, Gss ; South British, 47s Gd ; Shipping Company, 15s ; Standard Insurance, 12s.
Mr 11. E. Alport reports a sale by auction at the Hereford street sale-rooms, on Thursday las 1 "-, of song birds, parrots, fowls, ferrets, bird cages, furniture, groceries, and oilmen’s stores, at which satisfactory prices were obtained. Also, on Wednesday, by private treaty, sold a valuable freehold quarter-acre section, with dwellinghousc, in Cranmer square. At the Carlton yards on Wednesday, fat cattle and dairy cows, in profit or springers, were much inquired for, and an advance was obtained for beef of prime quality. Fat sheep remain without alteration. Store sheep and cattle dull of sale.
At Mr R. Wilkin’s weekly wool and skin auction on Thursday, Mr Aikman reports a good attendance of buyers, but values rather lower than for the two proceeding weeks. Upwards of 2500 skins and 20 bales and live packages of wool were catalogued, and all sold at the undermentioned prices : —Dry skeepskins at Gd to 7d per lb ; butchers’ ditto, best, at 3s to 5s 2d each ; butchers’ ditto, inferior, Is 9d to 2s Gd each ; dry pelts, lid to Is 8d each. Wool with grease, bales, sandy 9Jd per lb ; ditto small lots and inferior, 8d to B.}d per lb ; ditto locks, IJd to 4Jd per lb ; ditto pieces, 6-jd to 7,',d per lb ; ditto scoured, Is lOd per lb. Hides, salted, per lb ; green, 3Jd per lb. The same price as was obtained last week, 4£d per lb having been quoted in error.
Messrs 11. Matson and Co. report on the live stock market for the week ending 20th June, 1874 ;—At the yards on Wednesday last there was a decided improvement in biddings for fat cattle, and the few which came to hand created a brisk competition, and prices realised were equal to 21b to 22s Gd per lOOlbs. We look for a further advance on there prices during the coming month. For stores of good age and condition there was also a fair demand, and sales passed off satisfactorily. In sheep, 1495 came to hand, of which number only 250 were fat. Our entries comprised 1195 for Messrs F. H. Brittan, James Hurse, Richard Wright, J. P. O’Callaghan, G. A. Dury, and others. We sold cross-bred store sheep, mixed sexes, at 9s; better descriptions, at 11s Gd; fat cross-breds, at 14s and 15s per head ; fat merinos, with a few cross-breds mixed, at 13s per head ; fat and shorn lambs, at 10s per head; woolled do, 11s Gd; meiino wethers, two and four-tooth, fresh conditioned, at 4s 9d per head ; and turned out several pens of crcss-bred two and four-tooth store wethers unsold. Mutton realised 2Jd to 3d per lb. Sheepskins, Hides, Sec. —At our usual weekly sale on Thursday, at our stores, a fair supply came to hand. The trade was well represented, and sales made were equal to late quotations, except for a few lines which sold at 4d lower. Hides were passed in unsold. Stations, farms, and township properties—We have several in treaty, and hope to report sales shortly.
