Comerang, Captain Hughes, arrived in harbor on Saturday at 6 30 p.m. She left Port Chalmers at midnight Tuesday, intending to call at Eakanui. Owing to heavy sea was unable, to do so, and proceeded on to Oamaru ; remrined there until Thursday, loading cargo, and leaving same night, arriving at Timaru on Friday morning; left again at 8 p.m., and arrived at Akaroa on Saturday morning ; left again at 11.30 a.m., arriving as above. She sails for South this day. The s.s, Phoebe sailed for Wellington and Northern ports on Saturday at 5 p.m. FRATELLI GAGGINO, FROM LONDON. This barque arrived in harbor on Saturday from London. The captain reports that he left Gravesend on February ICth, had heavy weather down channel, and finally left on February 22nd. The N.E. trades were moderate, and were lost in 3 deg N. The S.E, trades were caught at once, and were lost in 22 deg 23 min S. The Island of Trfstan d’ Achuna was| sighted on April 20th. Ran down the southing from 46 to 48. Had moderate weather until sighting the Snares on the sth inst. Had variable weather up the coast, dense fogs and S.E. wind and sea prevailing. The barque has no passengers, but a large cargo. She comes consigned to Messrs Dalgety, Nichols, and Co. SHIP NORTHAMPTON, FROM LONDON. The Health (. fficer (Dr Donald) boarded the ship on Friday afternoon, and made a thorough inspection of the officers and crew, the result being very satisfactory. From the report made by the health officer to the Board of Health, it is probable the ship will be admitted to pratique to day. The following is the report of the voyage, kindly furnished : The favorite China clipper ship Northampton left London on March 18th, with 393 immigrants on board. She left Gravesend on the 21st, cleared the Downs on the 22nd, and discharged the pilot off Berry Head at noon on the 25th ; she then cleared the channel with a southerly wind, after which she experienced light westerly and northwesterly winds as far as Madeira, which Island was sighted on April 4th ; two days later she seemed to catch the N.E. trades in lat. 30 deg N, and which proved favorable, fine weather prevailing as far as 5 deg N., caught the S.E. trades on the 15th, and crossed the Equator on the 17th, without having to haul the yards round once. These trades proved favorable asfaraslat. 28 deg 47 min S., which which was reached on April 26th, being in long. 25 deg 38 min W. After this she experienced light and unsteady winds as far as the meridian of the Cape, which was passed pu May Bth in iat. 43 deg 20 mia S. ; she
then ran to the east on this parallel, with very variable winds from the S.W. and N.W. as far as the meridian of the Crozets, which was passed on May loth at midnight, the mean range of the barometer having been 29.50. She ran the remainder of the easting down on the parallel of 47£, with strong westerly winds. On May 26th she experienced a very heavy gale from W.N.W, with a tremendous high sea running from the same quarter, the ship scudded before it under lower topsails and foresails all day, the barometer being as low as 28.30. She behaved remarkably well throughout. Several seas were shipped during the day, some of which went below. Fortunately no damage was done except to the two life boats which hung in the davits, and whose stern posts were started through being struck by several heavy seas. After this she had favorable weather as far as the Snares, which were sighted June 3rd, 10 p.m., being then 70 days out from the pilot. She then ran dong the S.E. coast ot New Zealand with favorable S.W. winds until the morning of June sth, at 8 a.m., when Banks’ Peninsula was sighted. Here the wind failed, and light baffling winds were experienced throughout the day. At midnight a northerly breeze sprang up, and the ship stood in, and made Lyttelton light at 1 a.m. At 7.30 a.m. next morning the pilot came alongside, and brought the ship up to an anchorage, thus completing her passage in 72 days 13 hours, with no studding sail. The ship comes consigned to the New Zealand Shipping Company. She will be entered at the customs this day.
