TELEGRAMS.
(Per Anglo-Australian Press Telegraph Agency.) Wellington, June 8. A large line of maize was sold by auction to-day at from 7s 3d to 7s 6d per bushel. New Plymouth, June 8. Captain Henry King, R.N., died on Saturday, aged 92. He was the only surviving representative of the victory of Cape St Vincent, in 1797. Captain King was second lieutenant of the Seahorse, after the capture of Alexandria, and served in the operations in the Potomac, in 1814. He became commander in 1844. He then became resident magistrate at New Plymouth, and was gazetted a retired captain in 1852. Poet Chalmers, June 8. The s.s. Atrato, Captain Husband, from London, has arrived, after a passage of fiftynine days. She called at the Cape to coal and provision. She is in quarantine. There are six cases of measles, and thirty-two deaths ; all but one were infants. There were no deaths from infectious disease, but six from convulsions, nine from bowel complaints, and seventeen from croup. She has 762 souls on board ; 189 for here, and the rest for Canterbury. There has been 120 cases of measles, all very mild. Sailed—Ladybird, for Lyttelton, at noon ; Albion, at 4 p.m. ; Dallam Tower, for London, on Saturday. The Board of Health meets to-morrow to consider the Atrato's case. THIS DA Y'S TELEGRAMS. Wellington June 9. By the Albion the Government received a telegram from the loan agents, to the effect that the balance of the £1500,000 of the 4£ per cent debentures had been sold. Hokitika, June 9. A notice of motion has been tabled in the Provincial Council, of want of confidence in the Executive. The motion comes on this evening. Auckland, June 9.
